English Courses for ages 11-19

A visit to Britain gives students the opportunity to practise English in real-life situations and thus gain more confidence in speaking the language, as well as to learn more about the UK and make new friends.

INTERNATIONAL STUDY PROGRAMMES' language courses offer an integrated programme of English lessons, excursions and recreational activities under the guidance of English teachers, who ensure that students continue to practise their English during the fun activities outside the classroom.

ISP offers a large choice of locations in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland - towns and cities which are not overcrowded with overseas students and offer a typically British environment in which to study.

Host Family Accommodation

Staying with a British family provides an excellent opportunity to practise English and learn at first hand about the British way of life.

ISP host families are carefully selected for their friendliness and comfortable homes. They give a warm welcome and involve their guests in family life.

Students eat breakfast and dinner with their families and are provided with packed lunches to take to school and on excursions. (Food allergies, likes & dislikes are taken into account.)

Each student is guaranteed to be the only person of his/her mother tongue in the family if requested. (Two friends may ask to stay together if they wish).

Our experienced local organisers are on hand to ensure that students are happy in their host families.

Students often find that the experience of staying with a host family is one of the most memorable aspects of the course.

Residential Accommodation

Residential courses are held at universities in Worcester, Portsmouth and Southampton (and in others on request). Courses take place at city centre campuses, giving students the opportunity to engage in supervised activities and visits in the town every afternoon. (Available only for groups of 4 or more students with a leader.)

English Lessons

English lessons takes place on 4 or 5 mornings a week between 0900 and 1230 hours. Participants are divided into small classes according to age and ability. The aim is not only to improve language ability but also to give students a deeper understanding of British life.

Our teachers are all native speakers of English who have been carefully selected for their qualifications and experience in teaching English as a Foreign Language as well as their lively and caring personalities.

Emphasis in the lessons is on active student participation in a variety of practical language activities, designed to develop confidence and fluency.

Part of each morning's tuition focuses upon a theme relevant to the students' stay in Britain, for example: British Food and Family Life, Young People in the UK, Holidays & Travel, etc. Different aspects of each theme are explored through communicative language activities.

Stimulating materials are used to practise grammatical structures, pronunciation and intonation, learn new vocabulary, etc. in an enjoyable way.

The weekly programme also includes a 3 hour project session, during which students conduct interviews with local people on topics of their own choice.

Excursions and Activities

Students continue their learning outside the classroom in an action-packed programme supervised by their English tutors.

Excursions are made to some of Britain's most famous cities and sights - London, Oxford or Cambridge, Stratford-upon-Avon, Winchester, etc.

The varied programme of afternoon visits and activities and evening events includes a reception with the mayor, visit to the fire station, town quiz, sports such as football, rounders and swimming, bowling or crazy golf, party and course concert. Sports such as canoeing are offered as optional extras for groups.

Year-round courses for groups, specialist courses and class visits.

1-4 week courses can be arranged for groups of any age at any dates throughout the year. Groups may choose their course location and programme content. ISP is experienced in arranging courses for specialist groups, for example, students of tourism.

Please ask for special prices for groups and special offers for leaders.

Fixed courses for individual applicants and groups in July & August 2017.
